I thought it was fitting to write my first blog for 2017 on New Year's Day. It is that time of the year where we all set goals for the year ahead and promise ourselves that we will try and be better at something that we did in the past.

I thought it was fitting to write my first blog for 2017 on New Year's Day. It is that time of the year where we all set goals for the year ahead and promise ourselves that we will try and be better at something that we did in the past.

What I am hoping is that you will all add to your list of new year resolutions, is a promise that you will make an effort to take steps to looking after our planet. We only have one home, and we all share it but unfortunately money, greed and corruption by the few is seeing a destruction of our eco system. Did you know that more than 6.5 million people die each year from air pollution according to the latest report from International Energy Agency. The full story was reported by Ecowatch. All living creatures require air to live and now is the time to protect our air quality and environment before it is too late. Click here for a link to the IEA video.

Ordinary people are the ones who will lead the movement required to protect our planet, just like you. We cannot rely on our Governments to do this for us. There are many officials who are representing Governments around the world being influenced by the power of money and we can't really rely on them to protect our planet.

So what can we do in 2017?

If we all start making changes in our lives, even if they are baby steps,we can make a huge difference. Taking steps to conserve and reuse is easier than you might think. We just need to change our daily habits. To help save the environment, try decreasing energy and water consumption, changing our eating and transportation habits to conserve natural resources, and adapting our home and backyard to be more environmentally friendly. Once we have made our own lifestyle more environmentally conscious, I encourage you to engage in activism to share your own journey and help educate others on doing the same.

Find out where your money is being invested by your superannuation fund. Look out for ethical investment options. What we buy, where we buy it, what we eat are all areas we can examine to see if we can make the lifestyle changes required to start our sustainable journey in 2017.

We are looking forward to the future as technology improves we can see that the way we live and the way we do things will change dramatically for the better. The way we use energy and store it,the roll out of electric cars, recycling, reuse and food production are just some of the areas where we are seeing amazing innovations emerging.

Over this year I will keep you up to date on new technologies that will assist in the journey towards sustainability.

Together with The Australian Sun Energy team, I would like to wish you all a very Happy and Sustainable New Year. Together we can make a positive difference in 2017, one step at a time.
